General Information
Arrival and Attendance
The first bell rings at 7:30 each morning. At this time, students are allowed into the building and may go to class. The second bell rings at 8:00. This is the official start to our instructional day. The students should be in their seats, ready to go at 8:00, not getting out of the car at that time. If your child arrives after 8:00, please check them in at the office and they will be marked tardy. Thanks so much for your help with helping your children get off to a great start each and every morning!

Milner, Oleksiak and Taylor have lunch from 11:15-11:45 followed by recess from 11:45-12:15.

School Visits
If you would like to visit and/or volunteer in the classroom, please contact your child’s homeroom teacher to determine what works best. If it is your child’s birthday you may visit during lunch with a prepackaged treat that is already portioned. Cookies or donuts work well for ease of passing and cleaning up. Please NO NUTS!! Please inform your child’s homeroom teacher prior to bringing a special treat so we can be prepared.
If you would like to eat with your child during lunch, please adhere to the following Dilworth rules:
When you visit the school, make sure you check in at the front office and receive a visitor’s badge. If you are in the building without a badge, you will be asked to either report to the office or leave.
Transportation
If there is a day when your child will use a different form of transportation to get home, please send a note with your child to school. If a change needs to be made during the school day, you must contact Amy Boykin, our front office secretary. She can be reached at [email protected] or 980-343-5825.
PTA
If you haven't done so already, please consider joining and donating to the Dilworth PTA. The Dilworth PTA sponsors all of the fifth grade field trips, our SPARK t-shirts, and many other important committees that keep our school running. We are very fortunate to have a PTA like ours. Whether it is donating your time or money, please check out the PTA website at www.dilworthpta.org to see how you can help.
Wednesday Folders
The green PTA folder will come home every Wednesday. Please be sure to check it, complete any paperwork it may contain, and return it with your child on Thursday. This is a great way to stay up to date on things going on in our school.

Homework
Reading:
- Literacy teachers will generally assign nightly homework based on the novel your child is reading in class. This reading will be accompanied by sticky notes so the students can keep track of their thinking. All fifth grade students should read at least 30 minutes per day outside of school.
- Math homework is assigned nightly and is generally expected to be completed by the next day. Weekly problem solving sheets will be assigned on Monday and are due on Friday. These will cover past content to have a constant spiral review of math concepts.
- Occasionally a science assignment will be given.
